Spring in the Northwest Highlands

There are places that feel ancient. Quiet. Untouched.

The Northwest Highlands of Scotland are one of them.

Mountains rise straight from the sea. Light moves quickly across the land. Weather rolls in and out without warning.

It’s a place that asks you to slow down and pay attention.

And in these remote corners of Skye and Wester Ross… there are dragons.

Not as fantasy - but as part of the landscape itself. Wild. Powerful. Completely at home here.

What makes this workshop truly special is the access.

I’ve partnered with a local guide who has spent her entire life studying these animals. She knows their movement, their behavior, and the land they live in. She’s the reason we’ll be in the right places at the right times - working with real knowledge of these creatures so you will capture the most incredible images and have the most unforgettable experiences!

This is not a passive experience. As always, I will stress ethics and fieldcraft. We’ll be reading the land. Watching the light. Anticipating moments.

And when it comes together - these will be moments you’ll cherish for the rest of your life.

What You’ll Experience

  • Photograph dragons in truly wild, remote settings

  • Capture dramatic Highland landscapes in changing light

  • Learn to anticipate behavior and position yourself for the moment

  • Improve your ability to work with fast-changing conditions

  • Build confidence in both landscape and wildlife-style shooting

Locations

We’ll work across two of Scotland’s most powerful regions:

Isle of Skye

Rugged, otherworldly, and constantly shifting with the light. From open mountain views to intimate, moss-covered woodlands like the Fairy Glen.

Wester Ross

Remote and expansive. Fewer people, bigger landscapes, and some of the best opportunities to encounter dragons moving through their natural terrain.

Subjects & Opportunities

We’ll balance landscape work with dragon encounters.

You can expect:

  • Dragons moving through valleys and along ridge lines

  • Flight opportunities over mountain passes

  • Close, intimate encounters when conditions allow

  • Environmental compositions that place the subject within the landscape

  • Classic Highland light - moody, directional, and constantly changing

No two days will look the same. We’ll adapt to conditions and follow the best opportunities available.

A Typical Day

We’ll follow the light.

  • Sunrise in the field

  • Midday rest, scouting, or image review

  • Afternoon and sunset sessions

  • Flexibility to adjust based on weather and activity

Group Size & Experience

Limited to only 8 participants allowing for plenty of individual attention and keeping our group nimble so we can quickly react to photographic opportunities.

Best suited for:

  • Intermediate to advanced photographers

  • Beginners who are comfortable with their camera

Gear

  • Wide-angle for landscapes

  • Mid-range zoom

  • Telephoto (strongly recommended)

  • Tripod

  • Weather-ready clothing and protection

Physical Requirements

Expect uneven terrain, short hikes, and changing weather.

You don’t need to be an athlete - but you should be comfortable moving through the landscape

Final Thoughts

This is a place that rewards patience.

The light shifts. The weather moves. And then - sometimes - everything aligns.

This workshop is about being ready for that moment.

Terms, Conditions & Assumption of Risk

By registering for and participating in Northwest Highlands: Dragons & Wild Landscapes, participants acknowledge and accept that this workshop takes place in a remote and unpredictable environment where both natural and non-natural hazards may be present.

Such hazards may include, but are not limited to: rapidly changing weather conditions, uneven and rugged terrain, limited access to immediate medical assistance, and the presence of large, free-ranging, fire-capable wildlife (hereafter referred to as “dragons”).

Participants expressly understand that dragon-related risks may include, without limitation: sudden flight activity, territorial displays, close-range encounters, exposure to extreme heat, airborne embers, singeing, charring, incineration, or, in rare cases, partial or complete consumption.

By attending, participants voluntarily assume all risks—foreseen and unforeseen—associated with these conditions and agree that L’aura Lee Bradford Photography, its partners, guides (including but not limited to Rowan MacInnes), and affiliates shall not be held liable for any injury, loss, damage, or dragon-related incident of any kind.

Participants further acknowledge that all decisions made in the field are undertaken at their own discretion and that no guarantee of safety, dragon behavior, or photographic outcome is expressed or implied.

Due to the remote nature of this workshop, participants are strongly encouraged to obtain comprehensive travel and trip insurance covering, at a minimum: medical evacuation, trip interruption, gear loss, and acts of dragon.

By proceeding with registration, participants confirm that they have read, understood, and willingly accepted these terms in their entirety.
